Mercy

August 21, 2020 By Kim Stanley 7 Comments

The unending, overwhelming patience of our God.
It brings me to my knees with tears of gratitude.

Still.

Once, Mercy brought me to the end of myself, then to the beginning of a new life.

Over and over again, Mercy triumphs over judgement and comes running for me.

Never deserved, always lavished, Mercy is unexplainable but when experienced, is undeniable.

To be a receiver of Mercy, makes me a giver of the same.

Mercy reigns.

Mercy is a person.

It’s beautiful that God gives us the opportunity to practice the mercy He has shown us. It is also terribly challenging, and if I’m being honest, one of the areas I struggle with most. I’m a numbers girl. I like logic and order. Mercy throws everything off balance. But when I am able to step back from myself, I can admit that it throws everything off balance in the most wonderful way.

I never scored very high in the mercy category when taking the Spiritual gifts survey. But God being rich in mercy ….lives his mercy through me as i “step back from myself” as you so perfectly put it. Thank you.. FMF #12

This is lovely, but when I got to the last line, I misread it, as I am running rather a high fever toay.

I read, “Mercy is a prison.”

And then I thought about it for a bit. Can’t say the results are stellar, but there may be something in them.

    Mercy is a prison
    in which we hold, enchained,
    our ego and false reason,
    and cause them to remain
    remanded thus in stillness
    to watch while kindness grows
    and letting them bear witness
    to what they deeply know,
that they have sinned, and badly,
    and must in durance vile
    pass the time, so sadly
    until the gaoler’s gentle smile
tells them that their lesson’s learned,
and now, at last, the key is turned.
