Young

July 24, 2020 By Kim Stanley 9 Comments

I have a hard time remembering when all my children were young and at home. They were all spread out in ages, and our youngest will be 25 this year.
I do remember how I felt frustrated and incapable of being the Mom I wanted to be to them.
And I remember the grace of God showing up every day to be sufficient.
He is just faithful like that.
So today, as I’m not as young as I used to be, I remember God’s grace in the past and look for it today.
Maybe just to help me remember something; 🙂
or to be present with my husband;
or to call a friend;
or to clean out a drawer;
or to write.
Yes, I’ll wait upon the Lord and be renewed in strength.
I’ll wait for him to “let my flesh become fresh with youth; let me return to the days of youthful vigor.”
Breathe in grace.

    Breathe in grace. Ah, yes. I need it today…as much as I did back in those child-raising days. I pray His grace will continue to fill in the gaps of my inadequate parenting – as well as the holes I find in living today!! Always in need of grace:)

    Kim, I’m blessed to have found your blog AND your site! I am eager to listen to your music. I find this such a gift, that we are now connected by God and FMF! Your new friend, Karen 🙂 (FMF #7)

    Visiting as your FMF neighbor. I hear you. My youngest just turned 38. My Dad mind asks where did the time go, but I — like you — remember the grace of God showing up every day to be sufficient.” Peace and keep looking up!

      thank you Joe! I read yours as well. Appreciating the VALUE of family and family connections has been increasingly important to me too. Happy to meet you!

    Kim, one thing I have finally learned on the terminal cancer road is that I don’t have to try to do what I used to do; I just do what I can now…yes, my very best, but it will be less than before…and it’s enough. I feel God smiling as I write thee words, and hear Him saying, “Well done, My good and faithful Missouri Mule…you CAN learn, after all!”

    Your post inspired this sonnet. I hope you like it.

    Yesterday is not today,
    and today is not tomorrow.
    I just have to find my way,
    and there’s strength enough to borrow
    from my faith in Lord of Hosts,
    who will, if I ask,
    help me work (and not just coast)
    in my remaining tasks.
    I feel the day is coming soon
    when the piper must be paid,
    but ’till then, let’s shoot the moon,
    and never be afraid.
    His steps on Dolorosa road
    take all the burden from my load.

    God’s grace is a huge gift to us isn’t it? Too bad we so often forget! We need to remember it more often! Visiting from FMF 17
