Breathe

October 2, 2020 By Kim Stanley Leave a Comment

Breathe is something I’ve had to remind myself to do lately.
Deep breathing.
Drawing in slow, intentional air into my lungs, letting it sit there, held for a few seconds, then spewing it out in a controlled huff actually lowers my heart rate and brings me back to the present moment.
Some people may call it mindfulness.
I call it asking Jesus to breathe for me and in me.
I’ve had to do that many times in grieving the death of my 34 year old daughter over the last 2 years.
Just ask Him to breathe for me.
Literally.
And He did.
And He does.
His breath in my lungs not only gives me life in the natural, but continues to be my air, my life, my everything.
Breathe Him deep, friend.

Mercy

August 21, 2020 By Kim Stanley 7 Comments

The unending, overwhelming patience of our God.
It brings me to my knees with tears of gratitude.

Still.

Once, Mercy brought me to the end of myself, then to the beginning of a new life.

Over and over again, Mercy triumphs over judgement and comes running for me.

Never deserved, always lavished, Mercy is unexplainable but when experienced, is undeniable.

To be a receiver of Mercy, makes me a giver of the same.

Mercy reigns.

Mercy is a person.

Young

July 24, 2020 By Kim Stanley 9 Comments

I have a hard time remembering when all my children were young and at home. They were all spread out in ages, and our youngest will be 25 this year.
I do remember how I felt frustrated and incapable of being the Mom I wanted to be to them.
And I remember the grace of God showing up every day to be sufficient.
He is just faithful like that.
So today, as I’m not as young as I used to be, I remember God’s grace in the past and look for it today.
Maybe just to help me remember something; 🙂
or to be present with my husband;
or to call a friend;
or to clean out a drawer;
or to write.
Yes, I’ll wait upon the Lord and be renewed in strength.
I’ll wait for him to “let my flesh become fresh with youth; let me return to the days of youthful vigor.”
Breathe in grace.

If you have a heavy heart, we can be friends.

June 5, 2020 By Kim Stanley Leave a Comment

Dear Friends,

This is such a hard, strange season.

On one hand there are sweet new things we are seeing and experiencing, like having our kids and grandkids living with us for a few weeks.
I love seeing how creative people are in getting their message out, or how we are learning to Zoom for work and meetings and family gatherings.
I love that we are enjoying our homes and not feeling so much pressure of a set schedule. (Well, most of the time I love it)

But there is so much unrest as well.
In our world.
Evil seems highlighted and overpowering.
There are things my family and friends are dealing with that are just extra hard and stressful.

We are all lamenting over the horrible injustices toward our fellow man.

Maybe this is a time for all times.
It seems we’re on a collision course and you can feel the tension mounting up.

And yet, we are called to love fiercely and live without fear,
by the grace and power of the risen Jesus.

It’s not a sin to feel the fear.
Recognize it, say it out loud.
It diminishes the power of it when we say it out loud.

And then let the praises start!

These are the days we have to weild our weapon of worship.

Thanksgiving and praise to our mighty God who is sovereign and good and loving toward all He has made!!

It’s time to Sing.
Loudly.
Sing with a broken heart.
Sing with a heavy heart.
Sing to the King who is victorious!

I’m preaching to myself again.
I share in our One Thing Worship Retreats that “one thing leads to the next thing.”
What we hear from God in His Word, in His Presence, as we are taking time to listen to Him, leads us to action, the next thing.

Obedience.

Just do the next right thing as the Spirit leads you.
He will always lead you in truth.

Last week was the 2 year anniversary of our daughter Jordan’s death.

Grief is a pervasive teacher.
Make me a good student, Lord.

We cannot get our life from our circumstances.
Our life, our security, our wholeness, is only found and kept in Jesus.

There is always life from death.

Always a resurrection.
Always redemption.

So, we cry with those who are suffering.
We name the pain.

We rejoice with those who are on the mountain top.
We receive the blessing.

And we thank our glorious Jesus that He is with us through it all; that a new day is coming;
where He will wipe away every tear.
He will make a new heaven and a new earth.

And we get a front row seat to watch.

Recently, we recorded a Living Room Concert and put it on Youtube.
It’s our desire to worship the Lord with you; to call on Him for help and deliverance.
To be encouraged in the Lord together.

Click here if you’d like to watch it.

There are some very special guests and some funny bloopers at the end of it.

May the God of all peace be near.

Refrain

May 8, 2020 By Kim Stanley 3 Comments

How can I refrain from reacting and in place respond in love?
How can I refrain from judgement and instead choose to look with eyes of understanding?
To refrain from anything takes self control and discipline for sure.
And that fruit comes from the Holy Spirit who lives in me, ever guiding, teaching, convicting, and reminding me of truth.
My personal life coach.
So, as He gently, or otherwise, prompts me to listen and refrain from speaking, my tendency to react and judge diminishes as his abiding presence leads me.
His fruit, his life in me helps me refrain from the things of this world that are not of the Life of Christ.
